Common Equipment used in N.O.R.S Investigations
by Northeast Oklahoma Research Society on Jun.25, 2009, under Equipment
There are numerous tools used during an investigation below is a sample list of what is used by the Northeast Oklahoma Research Society in order to conduct a science based evidence driven investigation.
The Digital Audio recorder is utilized for capturing EVP’s or Electronic Voice Phenomena which basically are described as voice found imprinted on audio that where not heard during recording of the audio. This is the most common form of evidence recovered from a location. EVP’s generally occur in a set frequency range that can be found during the review of the material.
The hand held camera is the next most often used item in the inventory visual evidence is not a very common occurrence during investigations However it does happen and to be focused on the right spot at the right time is critical to capturing evidence on Video. The three most common types of cameras used are HI 8 as the one pictured above as well as Mini DV and HDD models. However to see in the dark the cameras must be able to utilize IR illumination and be able to film within that spectrum of light. also known as “night vision” the most commonly used brand of camera by the Northeast Oklahoma Research Society is the Sony Camcorder with Night Shot.
The computer based DVR system allows investigators to capture audio and video from from numerous areas and to be viewed and recorded from a central fixed point. These systems are often placed into a command post area where they are monitored by investigators and information can be relayed to investigators in the location. The systems are configurable to multiple cameras. the Northeast Oklahoma Research Society currently uses an 8 camera system. which allows us to record events in real time.
The EMF or Electromagnetic Field Detector is utilized by investigators to locate areas with a magnetic field such as unprotected electrical sites. this is usually used at the beginning of the investigation to obtain a baseline reading for the location. and is often used during an investigation to locate “spikes” in the magnetic field the theory is that spirits create a stronger magnetic field when they attempt to manifest.

We will soon be posting our equipment on the site! We are waiting for our next investigation to take pictures of the equipment we have and to catch it in action!
